The Teen MHFA course teaches teens how to provide mental health first aid to their friends.
The course was developed in response to research indicating that young people have a preference for sharing problems with peers.
who should do this course?
This course is particularly suitable for high school students, with a junior (Years 7-9) and senior (Years 10-12) program.
Note: The teen MHFA Course can only be taught at high schools where staff have received Youth MHFA training.

what is covered?
Throughout this course, teens will learn about:
The MHFA Action Plan
Different types of mental health problems and mental health crisis situations in young people (anxiety, depression, eating disorders, alcohol and other drug use disorders, and psychosis)
The relationship between thoughts, feelings and behaviours
Mental health crisis situations that are covered in this course include:
Suicidal thoughts and behaviours
Non-suicidal self-injury
Being intoxicated from alcohol and other drugs
Bullying or abuse
how long is the course?
The Years 7-9 program is split across 3 x 60 min sessions.
The Years 10-12 program is split across 3 x 75 min sessions.
